Thanks for a great season!
Boston Fixed Gear is a student-run, student-owned company started by bicycle enthusiasts in 2007. The 2009 season marked our first year with a retail store space, and we’d like to thank all of our customers and the community for making it a complete success.
At this time, we plan to keep the retail space open only during the summer season. If you'd like to get in touch with us, please email us at info@bostonfixedgear.com.
Meanwhile, check out the rest of our website, follow us on our blog, and stay tuned for announcements about a future store location.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Concept in Fixed Gear Bicycles Comes to Arlington
May 18, 2009
Boston Fixed Gear will open their new shop in Arlington on Saturday May 30th, 2009. Located at 8 Park Avenue, the new shop backs up to the Minuteman Bicycle Path at the Park Street overpass.
The business found its roots in 2008 as a web based builder of custom fixed gear and single speed bicycles. With high demand last season, Boston Fixed Gear has expanded to the Arlington location and features custom builds on new frames, as well as selected vintage frames.
Boston Fixed Gear also offers a wide range of tune-ups and service for all kinds of road bikes. “We’re excited to be part of the Arlington community and establish ourselves as a highly service-oriented shop”, says proprietor Jon Rubin. “We bring sense of value to bicycle building and maintenance that we think makes us unique.”
Boston Fixed Gear has a distinct value proposition. The local founders have a passion for bicycles. Customers can create their own bikes by selecting from a wide array of custom colors and components. “We want each of our customers to design a bicycle that is uniquely their own. It’s something you can’t find elsewhere,” says Jon Rubin. Pre-built models are also available.
Boston Fixed Gear operates year round on the web at www.bostonfixedgear.com and now seasonally out of Arlington from May through September. On-line custom ordering is also available.
Customers are encouraged to stop by the grand opening on Saturday and Sunday May 30 and 31. The shop is featuring $50.00 discount coupons to all customers interested in a custom bicycle as well as promotional specials on tune-ups.
Here it is, one of our dream bikes. The frame is brand new Reynolds 520 cromoly steel with a tight, responsive geometry. Frame size is a 56cm and gear ratio is 46t by 15t for even tire wear. This started out as Jon's personal bike, but we are putting it up for sale because we enjoy building them as much as riding them and we're looking for the next project. This bike is FAST and definitely stands out from the crowd!
